This conference seeks to impart both theological and psychological knowledge and skills to help Christian counsellors to be more effective in helping others heal past hurts, uncover unconscious hindrances and draw upon God for ultimate resources to manage adversities and grow more into His image during various stages of life.
The conference features 3 plenaries and 6 workshops, including one workshop in Mandarin by Christian counsellors who are experienced in their respective fields.
Dr Marty Goehring is a licensed clinical psychologist and the director of Formation Counseling Services (FCS) since 1994. He has been providing therapy for individual adults and couples for 33 years. He holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. He is also an ordained Cumberland Presbyterian minister and an adjunct faculty member at Richmont Graduate University (Atlanta). Dr Goehring's special interest areas include spiritual formation, anxiety, depression, marital therapy, and pre-engagement counselling
Brian G. Burnett is a professional engineer with a bachelor's and a master's degree in Civil Engineering. Mr. Burnett recently retired after 34 years with a civil engineering company. From 2003 to 2017, he served as the company's President/CEO with responsibilities for strategic planning and building the firm's business throughout the Southwestern U.S. Mr. Burnett has served as a founding member of the Board of Directors of Formation Counseling Services, now serving as Chairman of the Board. He applies his talents for strategic planning and business development to furthering FCS' mission to partner with churches to provide counselling services that transform lives, strengthen the church, and change communities.
Dr Voon Choon Khing has varied stations in life, whether as a nurse, midwife, missionary, social worker, librarian, counselor, teacher, and spiritual director, they are merely creative expressions of God's primary call on her as His beloved. She took early retirement from lecturing at Seminari Theoloji Malaysia to focus on spiritual direction & retreat work that has evolved into the Contemplative Companions Spiritual Direction Training Program (CCSDTP) in Nov 2017. She authored Discerning God in our Life: The Dance of Two Wills She is grateful for her husband Dr Chow Heap Yeong (Obstetrician & Gynaecologist) a fellow pilgrim in this faith journey, to grow together in God's delight, becoming conduits of God's love and grace in our generation.
Dr. Edmund Ng is a former pastor and business CEO and now a licensed counsellor, grief therapist and psychotherapist in private practice. Besides his business qualifications, he also did doctoral-level studies in practical theology and psychodynamic counselling. He is one of the three Asians holding a USA certification as a Fellow in Thanatology (ADEC). In the years 2011-17, he served as the Founding President of the National Association of Christian Counselors Malaysia and he is presently their Advisor. In 2017, he was elected the first President of the newly formed Asian Christian Counselors Association. Edmund has written two books entitled The TIME Approach to Grief Support, An Easy Technique for Every Christian (published in USA) and Discovering What God's Word is Telling us Psychologically, Perspective from an Eastern Mindset.
Jochebed Isaacs is a Clinical Psychologist and Director cum Senior Supervisor at Early Autism Project (EAP) Malaysia. She completed her Master of Clinical Psychology at University Kebangsaan Malaysia and her Bachelor of Psychology at Curtin University of Technology. She is a committed Christian and together with her family, they are a part of the Kingdomcity church family. Jochebed has trained parents, therapists, and professionals on a variety of topics including Diagnosing Autism, Introduction to Autism, Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA), Discrete Trial Teaching, Play and Social Skills, Communication & Language and developing positive behaviour support plans. She has been invited to speak in many different settings (including universities, schools, public lectures and corporate organisations) in different parts of Malaysia as well as in Cambodia and Brunei.
余慧莹传道 (Ps Phoebe Yee) 余慧莹传道在马来西亚学神学院 (Seminari Theoloji Malaysia) 完成其道学学士学位，因看见家庭会影响一个人而去香港伯特利神学院考取其基督教婚姻与家庭治疗硕士学位和临床牧关教育证书。回马国后在马来西亚圣经学院 (Bible College of Malaysia) 教授辅导课程，同时是 Rekindle Centre for Systemic Therapy 的治疗师。本身是香港专业辅导协会的会员 (HKPCA)，并继续取其美国婚姻及家庭治疗学会(AAMFT)之认证。
Patrick Cheng has been in Christian full-time ministry in both the church and para-church context for more than three decades. He is the president of NACC Malaysia. He is a part-time lecturer at a local university and a licensed counsellor at a professional counselling center, helping clients on both individual and couple therapy. He also conducts talks and workshops on emotional excellence, counselling skills, strong marriages and smart parenting. He holds a Bachelor in Theology, a Master in Pastoral Counselling and a Master in Counselling. He has been married for over 30 years and has two grown-up sons.
